A portrait of my little ones, once a week, every week in 2014, see more here.

U: part of the field flooded at the farm and you waded in the deep water, you kept telling me how much fun you were having and how you wanted to re-create it in our yard. you have been so enthusiastic lately, and sweet. i am digging the stage you are in so much right now.

S: strawberry picking this weekend to celebrate your birthday. you ate so many berries, swung on the tire swing, and tried to catch chickens. you love reading books, eating nuts, and taking care of everyone. you have been disappearing into the raspberry bushes in our yard and bringing us berries one at a time to eat.

U: this week was ice cream, strawberries, and playing in the dirt. here you are in the backyard with some sticks and slingshots, all boy.

S: you now say "that makes me happy" about all sorts of things. this morning we were talking about the animals at the zoo and you asked if they had flamingos, giraffes, hippos and we said yes. You asked "beavers"? and we said yes and you gasped and said "wow. that makes me happy". it is delightful.

A mother's day hike in the mountains up to a snowy lake. It was quite an experience, maybe I will share some of it another time. But for now...

U: this week you saw a great horned owl, and a peregrine falcon (you gasped when you saw it and said "the fastest animal in the world"!), and you pet some sort of gigantic snake.

S: anytime we go someplace where a band is playing you shout out "play day dayenu!". We went to the first farmer's market of the season and you can't stop talking about the strawberries. I think we are going to blow your mind when you realize how many berries we get to pick and eat all summer.

A portrait of my little ones, once a week, every week in 2014, see more here.

U: we headed out east to catch the sun and play in the canyon. You made a raft of driftwood and used long pieces of grass to lash it together. We sailed it down the rushing river, and you said it would go all the way to Madagascar. we followed a lizard into the tall grass to try and catch it, but it got away, so I took your photo in the starting to set sun.

S: in the backyard, you were feeding Uzi his dinner that he didn't eat. you noticed his face was all messy, so you got a cloth napkin and wiped off his face. you are such a caretaker, it is amazing to see in someone so little. you can now sing "you are my sunshine" all my yourself, and it sounds so sweet.

Playing and enjoying popsicles in the backyard after a picnic dinner at the park.

S: you ask me to sing "you are my sunshine" over and over. uzi asked you what your favorite color was and you said rainbow!

U: today you decided not to accompany me on errands because you were too busy making little figures out of colored beeswax. you made tiny pictures of you in the forest, at home, holding a flower, and at the beach. when I came home you told me you missed me. you are one sweet kid.
