S: in the morning, out back on the ladder we use to pick plums. first swimming lessons, which you love. always saying you are hungry. repeating everything your brother says to me "uzi say…".

U: beach vacation! we discovered tide pools filled with amazing creatures and you caught them and put in a bucket to watch for a bit. You caught fish and lots of different crabs and touched a million anemones and star fish. You went swimming and hot tubbing and ate tons of candy. We ran as fast as we could down the beach and chased the birds and examined jellyfish. you made big sandcastles on the beach with abba and watched the waves knock them down. you are in a very goofy stage right now, with lots of crazy voices and songs and dance moves.

S: you are cracking me up and giving lots of hugs these days. you pretend to eat all the food in your books. you are consistently cheery and happy. we played chase with the waves over and over and you asked me to bury you in the sand, but you kept wiggling your toes loose. you came to the breakfast table asking for a cookie and milk this morning. you spent part of the car ride taking care of your baby and pretend washing her face and brushing her teeth and then telling her "i love your eyes (and nose, mouth, cheeks, chin)" and giving them each a kiss.

A portrait of my little ones, once a week, every week in 2014, see more here.

This week Grammie was in town, and we had lots of adventures. Trips to the zoo and the amusement park and the library, eating delicious pizzas and homemade crumbles and ice cream sandwiches. We bought new school supplies for first grade and a few more fairytales for our book collection.

U: You are obsessed with animals, particularly ones of the the unusual variety. You are often pouring over animal books from the library and creating your own abc books of animals. You went on a wild roller coaster with Grams and weren't too fond of it. You ate five pieces of pizza here, out eating everyone in the family!

S: You wanted to ride on the carousel over and over. You went on a horse, then switched to a rooster, then changed your mind and went on the frog and then wanted nothing to do with the frog and wanted to be on a different horse. You wanted to hold grammie's hand all the time. This morning you were doing this funny tongue clicking, head banging dance that made us all crack up.

A portrait of my little ones, once a week, every week in 2014, see more here.

This week was true summer, with no plans in place. Lots of time at home and in the garden, on hikes in the woods, visiting creeks and splashing in fountains. Picking blueberries. We went to several outdoor concerts and had some late bedtimes, which was actually great. Many picnic dinners and pushes on swings.

U: You got to see and pet two (no longer alive) beavers this week at nature centers, you were very excited. This morning you were dressed like a beaver and laid out everything you owned related to beavers. All books were opened to the appropriate page showing pictures of beavers. Your beaver phase is still going strong.

S: this week you have been going up to your brother and saying "hold my sister hand". This morning I overheard you ask your brother "What you draw? An angler fish?". Yesterday you were dancing at the flaming lips show and called the big puppets on the stage "muppets". You are constantly patting me and saying "i love you" and kissing me and giving big hugs. you are always gauging emotions and asking people "are you happy right now?".
